Hope Restored for Asylum Seekers

As Seattle's first social realtor, every sale with Chapman Homes helps a person in need at no additional cost to you. See how it works HERE.

Today I'm grateful for my clients Ron and Judy. It was such a pleasure helping them sell their home in Bellevue! As always, my fantastic client's home purchase generated a donation to one of Chapman Homes non-profit partners. This time around, a gift was made to World Relief Seattle who helps refugees and asylum seekers feel loved as they set up a new life in America.

Mykola and Nataliia have experienced many difficulties, but hope is being restored, and they are beginning to thrive.

Mykola and Nataliia arrived to the U.S. from Ukraine right before the pandemic hit. Their first months were full of challenges from accessing medical care, to applying for SSI and Basic Food, to navigating a complex new system through a shut down.

Fortunately, they really found World Relief Seattle to be a great support in their transition to living in the World Relief Seattle area. If they had not spent so many hours on the phone with their WRS caseworker figuring things out, and it would be hard not to feel discouraged.

Then, last week they were in a car accident, hit by a semi on the freeway. Thankfully, they walked away uninjured, but their car was completely totaled.

This week, one of their long-awaited applications was approved, and we received a donated car that was a good fit for them. When their caseworker called to share the good news, Nataliia sobbed on the phone, overwhelmed with joy. She said it felt like a big burden was taken off them. Through the tears, Nataliia told the caseworker that it was Mykola’s birthday.

Happy birthday, Mykola! We are honored to walk alongside this family through the hard times and the joyful ones.

Matthew Chapman works hard to make your home buying or selling experience enjoyable and gives part of every commission to help a person in need.
