About Newcastle WA
Newcastle is a cool Eastside city in King County, Washington, with a population of 13,017 as of the 2020 census. It was one of the first spots the area for coal mining and had the very first railroad connection to Seattle in King County. Timber also played a part in its early days The coal that was shipped by from Newcastle to Seattle helped the Port of Seattle grow and brought in major railroads like the Great Northern Railway.
When it comes to per capita income, Newcastle ranks 11th out of 522 areas in Washington. In CNN Money's 2011 list of the best places to live in the U.S., Newcastle made it into the top 20, right alongside Sammamish. Plus, it snagged the 17th spot in Newsweek's 2009 rankings of the best places to live in the country.
